Real Patient Transformations

Changing Lives, One Smile At A Time

Many parents bring their children into our office with hopes of setting their children up for dental hygiene success. Others are looking to repair damage or help their children get back on track. Seeing these children walk out with healthy smiles and healthy lifelong habits is the reason behind our mission here at Campfire Smiles Pediatric Dentistry. No matter your child’s needs, we’re honored to be a part of their oral health journey. Take a look at our Before & After gallery to explore real patient stories!

Using SDF to freeze cavities

before and after treatment

Before

After

In this case, silver diamine fluoride (SDF) was used to treat the cavities of the front teeth temporarily until the child was able to get restorative treatment completed. The black staining is from the SDF freezing, or arresting, the cavities. This allowed us to prevent the progression of the cavities so that by the time we were able to fix it, the cavities were not larger and the treatment could remain as simple as originally planned.Silver stainless steel crowns were placed on the back teeth due to significant-sized multi-surface cavities.

Broken tooth after dental trauma

before and after treatment

Before

After

This patient had injured a permanent front tooth resulting in a large fracture. We were able to restore the esthetics and function of the tooth by placing a tooth-colored filling. Upon close inspection, you may notice that the restored tooth is slightly shorter than the one next to it. This was done due to the patient's bite, based on where the bottom tooth or opposing tooth was. Fillings are not as strong as natural tooth structure so ever so slightly shortening the filling was a way of alleviating the forces on the tooth to reduce the chances of re-fracture.

Cavities and hypoplasia

before and after treatment

Before

After

In this case, the patient had something called hypoplastic enamel. The shell of the tooth never formed fully properly resulting in weaker, discolored tooth structure. The patient then developed cavities of this weaker tooth structure, requiring restoration. Parents of the child decided to include the hypoplastic and discolored portions of the tooth in the fillings as opposed to just fixing the cavity part. This decision was made to prevent the remaining weakened tooth structure from developing into cavities as well as for esthetics reasons.
